Baklava
Serves : 18

1 cup butter -
melted
1 Lb. chopped walnuts OR mixture of walnuts, pecans, and
almonds
1 tps. ground cinnamon
1 Lb. package phyllo dough
1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup honey
-Brush melted
butter over the bottoms and sides of a 9" X 13"
pan.
-Toss chopped nuts with cinnamon. Set aside.
-Unroll phyllo dough and cut the stack in half to fit the
pan.
-Place 2 sheets of dough in pan and generously brush with
butter.
-Repeat 3 times.
-Sprinkle 2-3 Tbls. of nut mixture on top, top with 2
sheets of dough, brush with butter.
-Repeat 5 times.
-Place 2 sheets of dough on top and brush with butter.
-Repeat 2 times.
-Using a sharp knife, cut into 1" squares, making
sure to cut al the way to the bottom of the pan.
-Bake in 350 degree oven for 50 minutes, until baklava is
golden and crisp.
-While baklava is baking, boil water and sugar until
sugar is dissolved, then add vanilla and honey. Simmer
for 20 minutes.
-As soon as baklava is finished baking, spoon sauce over
it. Allow to cool.
-Divide each square into cupcake papers. Store uncovered
or freeze.
NOTES : Phyllo
dough dries out easily. While working with it, keep
covered with a damp cloth.
