Thumbprint Cookies

1/2 cup butter or margarine - softened
1/4 cup brown sugar - packed
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup flour
1 egg white - slightly beaten
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup currant or grape jelly OR Hershey's

-In medium mixing bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla with a spoon until smooth.
-Stir in flour just until combined.
-Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
-Roll dough into 1 inch balls.
-Dip balls into egg white, roll in walnuts, and place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.
-Press thumb about half way through center of dough balls.
-Spoon small amount of jelly (or Kiss) into hole.
-Bake in 375 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.
